The logo I would choose would be the second thumbnail with the reef looking image and torch because it looks traditional and it helps that it looks great. The typeface I would choose would be Trajan Pro or Copperplate. The first thumbnail would go great on a cover of some kind.
I would have to agree. The top row, middle design is the most unique. I think Scotland is hard because you want to use the lion imagery, but to create your own design, it would have to be done in a different way. The image of the lion is used in so many designs, I think it could work if you use it with your own interpretation. Maybe the lion could work if you took it a little more abstract. I would avoid Trajan Pro as it is also over used. I do like Copperplate the most.
I like the simplicity of the logo in the 3rd row 2nd column. The hierarchy works well. The other logos show more cultural influence verses cultural and Olympic games culture. I would like to see more Olympic influence. I like how you treated the year on the logo in the 3rd row 1st column. I agree with the comment above on the type face choices, those seem to match the Scotland culture the best.
The first logo of the third row could work, the lion is very iconinc of Scotland and the placement of type and number is also good. Maybe Scotland could be arched encapsulating the icon. Shields are good icons for Scotland as well. As far as a typeface I think maybe Trajan Pro but maybe there are others that can go better with it... Nice job
The second mark looks very clean and presentable and fits in a nice solid space, its all aligned and balanced which I tend to like symmetrical things most of the time. I also like the mark in the bottom right corner because I tend to see that lion figure associated with Scotland and I think it is a cool mage, so if there was a way to stylize that in some unique way with the shield I think that would also be a strong mark.
For some reason i am drawn to the bottom middle. I think it would work if you incorporated the colors of the olympics or some colors from the native area. Another idea would be to incorporate some ornamentation as seen in some of the other sketches if you think its too boring. I also think that the top middle is a strong emblem.
I like the design in the middle top. But maybe instead of drawing the stems going up, maybe you could have them lying flat to kinda have a hierarchy between everything OR just draw them a little smaller because it is kind of competing with the bulb thing in the middle. Good ideas though
